Salesforce Enhances Slack with Advanced AI Features
Salesforce, the cloud software leader, is strategically transforming its business model around artificial intelligence. At a recent event in San Francisco, CEO Marc Benioff and his team revealed the latest developments, showcasing an updated version of Slack that incorporates a wide range of new AI functionalities. A standout enhancement is the significant upgrade to its AI assistant, Slackbot.
This update introduces 30 new features set to roll out in the coming months, building on a January release that equipped Slackbot with more dynamic capabilities, such as composing emails, scheduling meetings, and extracting specific information from users’ inboxes.
Reusable AI Skills Transform Slackbot’s Capabilities
One of the most innovative features unveiled is what Salesforce refers to as reusable AI skills. These skills empower users to define specific tasks for Slackbot, which can be utilized in various scenarios. While Slackbot comes pre-loaded with a library of AI skills, users can also create tailored versions to meet their unique needs.

Once these skills are activated, they greatly streamline workload for employees. For instance, a user can issue a simple command in Slack, such as “create a budget” for an upcoming event. Slackbot will then compile relevant information from various Slack channels and integrated applications to create a practical action plan. Additionally, it will autonomously schedule a meeting to review the plan, inviting appropriate team members based on their roles.
Seamless Integration with External Services
Moreover, Slackbot now operates as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client, enabling it to connect and coordinate with external applications and services. This functionality is particularly enhanced by Salesforce’s AI agent development platform, Agentforce, which was launched in 2024. Through this integration, the Slackbot can direct tasks or prompt inquiries to Agentforce or any associated agent or application within an organization, efficiently navigating towards the needed information without requiring human input.
Meeting Transcription and Summarization Features
According to Rob Seaman, Slack’s interim CEO and former chief product officer, the functionalities of Slackbot have expanded to include meeting transcription and summarization. If a participant misses critical details during a meeting, they can simply request a recap from Slackbot, which will include all assigned action items.
AI-Powered Monitoring and Suggestions
Slackbot’s capabilities extend beyond its platform; it can now monitor desktop activities, drawing on information such as deals, conversations, calendar events, and user habits. Based on this context, Slackbot offers actionable suggestions or even drafts follow-ups for important tasks. Seaman emphasized that privacy safeguards are integral to this design, allowing users to adjust permissions as necessary.
Expanding Slack’s Role in Business Processes
In summary, Salesforce is actively redefining Slack’s role, evolving it from a traditional enterprise communication tool into a more versatile platform that addresses a broader range of business tasks. The ambition appears to be that by embedding AI at its core, Slack can become an essential component of enterprise users’ daily operations.
During his keynote, Benioff reflected on the transformative journey since Salesforce’s acquisition of Slack five years ago, noting a remarkable “two and a half times revenue growth” and highlighting that around one million businesses now operate on the platform. This momentum illustrates Slack’s continual evolution as a significant player in the business software landscape.
