Amazon is rolling out one-hour and three-hour delivery options in numerous U.S. cities as it seeks to compete with instant delivery services like Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats. This shift reflects the e-commerce giant’s commitment to enhancing delivery speed to meet growing consumer demands.
New Delivery Options Available for Over 90,000 Items
As part of this initiative, more than 90,000 products will qualify for the new delivery system. Customers can easily identify eligible items on the Amazon app, where a special label will indicate whether an item can be delivered within one or three hours. Additionally, shoppers can utilize filters specifically designed for these rapid delivery choices on the app and website.
Pricing Structure for Delivery Services
For Amazon Prime members, the cost for one-hour deliveries will be $9.99, while three-hour deliveries will be priced at $4.99. Non-Prime members can expect to pay $19.99 for one-hour deliveries and $14.99 for three-hour options, making Amazon’s service accessible to a wide range of consumers.
Nationwide Availability in Major Cities
Amazon has announced that the one-hour delivery option will be available in hundreds of U.S. cities, targeting significant metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. The three-hour delivery service will expand to over 2,000 cities and towns nationwide, broadening Amazon’s reach and influence in the fast-paced delivery market.
Launch of a Dedicated Storefront for Quick Deliveries
To streamline access to these new delivery options, Amazon is launching a dedicated storefront where consumers can browse items eligible for expedited delivery. This focused approach is designed to enhance the shopping experience and make it easier for customers to find products that meet their urgent needs.
Leveraging Existing Fulfillment Networks
The company plans to utilize its existing same-day fulfillment centers to support these new rapid delivery options. This strategic decision allows Amazon to maximize efficiency while ensuring that customers receive their orders promptly, capitalizing on their extensive logistical capabilities.
A History of Attempts in Instant Delivery
This latest initiative is not Amazon’s first venture into quick delivery services. The company previously introduced one-hour deliveries through the “Prime Now” service in 2014, a program that was eventually discontinued in 2021. More recently, in December 2025, Amazon tested a 30-minute delivery option in select cities, showcasing its ongoing efforts to innovate in the delivery space.
Global Expansion of Quick Commerce Services
Amazon is also making strides in the quick commerce sector worldwide. In 2024, it launched Amazon Now in India, offering a rapid 10-minute delivery service for groceries and other essentials, which has since expanded to multiple cities. Furthermore, Amazon introduced a similar service in the United Arab Emirates last October, promising deliveries within just 15 minutes, highlighting its commitment to enhancing convenience for consumers globally.
