Adyen, a prominent global PayTech platform, has enhanced its collaboration with Australian travel insurer 1Cover to revamp the company’s payment systems in Australia and New Zealand.
The new payment infrastructure aims to facilitate scalability, optimize operations, and elevate customer experience, coinciding with 1Cover’s growth in the travel insurance market in the region.
Established in 2003, 1Cover was among the first online travel insurance providers in Australia, safeguarding millions of travelers across Australia and New Zealand. As the organization expanded, its payment framework grew increasingly tangled, relying on various providers across multiple regions.
According to Adyen’s Australia Insurance Report 2026, fragmented systems pose a significant challenge for insurers, with 51% still using manual processes and outdated infrastructure, and 93% experiencing fraud costs that amount to up to 5% of annual revenue.
Through this partnership, 1Cover has streamlined its payment systems onto Adyen’s platform, thereby gaining access to local payment methods, automated reconciliation, and machine-learning-powered fraud prevention tools.
Since transitioning to Adyen’s platform in May 2025, 1Cover has reported operational enhancements and cost reductions. In the first nine months following the migration, the company achieved savings of approximately AUD $35,000, primarily due to improvements in infrastructure like local card routing.
1Cover anticipates total annual savings could reach AUD $50,000 as the advantages of the upgraded payment infrastructure further materialize.
Hayley Fisher, Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand at Adyen, remarked that payments are crucial for customer interactions during significant moments that require trust, speed, and reliability. She noted that in a landscape where insurers face pressure to achieve more with fewer resources, consolidating payments onto a single platform can alleviate complexity, cut costs, and foster sustainable growth.
Natalie Ball, Managing Director at 1Cover, stated that partnering with Adyen has helped eliminate friction points in the payment process, allowing for quicker and more straightforward transactions for customers. She added that costs have decreased without compromising performance, representing a significant benefit for the business as it expands its operations in Australia and New Zealand.
In addition to generated cost savings, the revamped setup ensures automated monetary transactions, consolidated reporting, and minimized manual input in payment processes.
Looking forward, 1Cover plans to explore further payment capabilities through Adyen as it continues to broaden its reach within the region.
