AMD (AMD) presents its latest PC AI and graphics chips at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. The company on Monday announced its new Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 300, and additional Ryzen AI 200 central processing units (CPUs) for AI PCs, as well as high-power chips for gaming desktops and laptops and gaming systems. portable games.

The chips allow AMD to further compete with rivals Intel (INTC) and Qualcomm (QCOM) in the still nascent AI PC space and Intel on the desktop and mobile gaming fronts, two important markets for the semiconductor company.

Ryzen AI Max chips are designed for high-power laptops aimed at gamers and content creators. The company says it will feature up to 128GB of unified memory and a neural processing unit capable of performing up to 50 TOPS (billions of operations per second).

TOPS are a general way to measure a chip’s AI performance. AMD, Intel, NVIDIA (NVDA), and Qualcomm each offer TOPS as a specification that consumers should pay attention to when it comes to choosing AI PCs.

AMD says the Ryzen AI Max will also be available in a PRO series that will feature AMD PRO capabilities, including enhanced security and enterprise management features.

In addition to the AI Max, AMD also showed off its latest AI 300 and AI 300 Pro Series chips, including the Ryzen AI 7 350 and Ryzen AI 5 340. AMD says the chips are designed to run AI PCs for consumers and businesses that don’t necessarily need the high-end power of its AI Max processors.

However, like AMD’s Max chips, the AI 300 and AI 300 Pro offer 50 TOPS of AI performance, meaning they can run things like Microsoft’s (MSFT) Copilot+ PC applicationsincluding its Recall and Click to Do options, which let you take snapshots of your activity, quickly resume where you left off, and perform dynamic actions linked to text and images on the screen.

AMD also launched its Ryzen 200 and Ryzen 200 PRO Series chips for affordable consumer and professional laptops. Unlike the Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI 300 processors, the Ryzen 200 only offers 16 TOPS, meaning they may not be able to run more advanced AI applications.

Beyond its PC AI processors, AMD also announced a host of new gaming-focused processors for desktops, laptops, and handhelds. For hardcore PC gamers and content creators, there is the Ryzen 9950X3D and Ryzen 9900X3D. Gamers looking for high-performance laptops get the new Ryzen 9000HX series chips, which AMD says offer better temperature control, which can save battery life.

Finally, the company revealed its Ryzen Z2 Series gaming chips for portable gaming systems. Portable PC systems are typically similar in size to Nintendo’s popular Switch console, but run Windows or Linux-based operating systems and can play PC games.

AMD’s announcements come as the company seeks to steal more market share from rival Intel and as Qualcomm continues to push into the PC market. Intel is hot on its heels as it struggles to complete an arduous turnaround effort. The company’s board already ousted former CEO Pat Gelsinger after Intel’s shares fell in 2024 and is searching for a replacement.

Qualcomm, meanwhile, is still a relatively small player in the PC space, but its chips show promise in terms of power and performance. Still, AMD seems pretty well positioned for what could be a major showdown in the chip market in 2025.
