East Texas A&M University Hosts Engaging Round Table on Commercial Real Estate
The East Texas A&M University College of Business Finance Society recently organized a thought-provoking round table event in Dallas, focusing on the commercial real estate sector. This gathering brought together an inspiring group of women from Leaders for Commercial Real Estate (CREW) to share their career experiences, discuss emerging industry trends, and provide valuable advice to students pursuing careers in finance, accounting, and real estate.
Insightful Discussions Among Industry Leaders
With 25 eager students in attendance, the event featured prominent speakers, including Lydia Traylor, Vice-President of Business Development at Root Engineering PC; Cathy Janke, Senior Vice-President at Fifth Third Bank; Rachel Schnitzius, Director of Interiors at Hok; and Najdi Rafaty, Director and Founder of Linc Commercial Realty. Each panelist shared their unique journey in commercial real estate, offering students an authentic view of what it takes to thrive in this competitive field.
Exploring Relevant Topics in the Industry
The discussions touched on a variety of critical topics, such as the increasing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industry, the importance of sustainable development practices, and how organizations adapt to attract and retain emerging talent. These conversations shed light on the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing today’s real estate professionals.
Insights from Educational Experts
Dr. Pratima, an assistant finance professor and faculty advisor for the Finance Society, emphasized the significance of the round table. “This event provided students with a unique opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in commercial real estate. They shared invaluable insights about their journeys and the emerging trends in the industry,” she stated. Dr. Pratima highlighted the discussions on AI, stressing its role as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human talent, and emphasized the adage, “Garbage in, Garbage Out,” regarding the quality of AI outputs.
Green Building and Environmental Responsibility
The conversation also delved into the expectations of institutional investors regarding green building certifications and environmental responsibility. This aspect offered students a clear perspective on the intersection of finance, development, and sustainability, which is increasingly becoming a priority in today’s real estate landscape.
A Personal Connection to CREW
Kaci Goggans, President of the Finance Society, expressed her enthusiasm about the event, stating, “It is always an honor to be part of an event, especially when CREW is involved. This group of women inspires me and encourages me to seek out opportunities, whether in my career or simply life after college. I always leave a CREW event with more knowledge than I expected.”
Commitment to Professional Development
The Finance Society continues to serve as a vital resource for students at East Texas A&M University, promoting career exploration and professional development within the College of Business. This aligns with the university’s mission to transform lives through excellence in education, innovation, and connection, enabling students to excel in their future endeavors.
