Government Commitment to AI and K Culture

On September 18, 2025, Korea’s Minister of Finance, Koo Yun-Cheol, highlighted the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and Korean culture (K Culture) as a vital strategic sector for the nation. During a meeting with industry stakeholders in Seoul, Koo expressed the government’s unwavering support for this burgeoning field.

Strategic Growth Engine for the Economy

Koo emphasized that the integration of AI technologies with K content not only represents a new growth engine for the Korean economy but also positions local businesses to become global leaders. He stated, “The merger of AI and K content is essential for our economic advancement, providing opportunities for businesses to innovate and excel on the world stage.”

Supporting Local Businesses

The Minister reassured stakeholders that the government is committed to helping Korean enterprises unlock their full potential. The aim is for these businesses to ascend as dominant players within the global content market through strategic support and resources.

A Vision for the Next Five Years

The government views the next five years as a crucial period for achieving significant breakthroughs that will lead to sustainable growth. Koo articulated the ambitious goal of producing tangible results by 2030 to solidify Korea’s position in the global economy.

Ambitious Sales and Export Targets

As part of the strategic roadmap, the Korean government aims for the K content industry to attain annual sales of 230 trillion won (approximately $165 billion) and to achieve $25 billion in exports within the next five years. This initiative underscores Korea’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the global content arena.

The Role of Transversal Working Groups

This announcement follows the recent establishment of 15 transversal working groups comprising both public and private sector members. These groups are designed to ensure collaboration and effective communication among stakeholders in the AI and K culture industries, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and growth.
