Revolutionizing Patient Care with AMIA-AI Technology at St. Luke’s

St. Luke’s Health System in Idaho is making significant strides in patient care by partnering with Ambience Healthcare to implement AMIA-AI technology. This innovative tool efficiently summarizes 18 months of patient history into concise, actionable insights that enhance the clinician’s ability to provide prompt and effective care.

Streamlining Patient Summaries

The AMIA-AI technology processes structured and unstructured patient notes, extracting vital information from the patient’s graphic data and the CareeveryWhere platform of Epic. This system allows healthcare providers using the EPIC DSE to share patient information across organizations seamlessly. As a result, patient interactions are distilled into two to three essential chips, summarizing crucial details such as hospital discharges, emergency room visits, and specialized consultations.

Breaking Through Information Overload

Ambience describes the previous experience as akin to an “electronic treasure hunt,” where clinicians spend valuable time digging through extensive electronic health records to find summaries, lab results, and medication changes. The new summary tool eliminates this burden, allowing physicians to focus on patient care rather than searching for information.

Enhancing Efficiency in Clinical Practice

The AMIA-AI tool is particularly beneficial for clinicians who regularly move between patient rooms, as it offers a quick evidence-based overview of a patient’s history. “Preparing to see patients is a high-effort activity,” states Dr. Trevor Satterfield, the director of medical information at St. Luke’s. “The ability to access pertinent patient history within seconds greatly enhances our efficiency and effectiveness.”

The Economic Impact

A recent KLAS report highlights that St. Luke’s saves more than $13,000 per clinician through expedited chart closures and increased face time with patients. The ability to quickly gather and summarize patient history not only improves workflow but also represents a cost-effective strategy for healthcare systems.

Expanding the Reach of AMIA-AI Technology

The AMIA-AI platform is currently utilized in primary care settings at St. Luke’s but is set for expansion into emergency and inpatient care environments. This broader application promises to elevate the quality of care for a wider spectrum of patients, ensuring that up-to-date information is always accessible when needed.

The Future of Patient Engagement

As healthcare transforms, the importance of patient engagement remains paramount. AI technology like AMIA-AI is enabling providers to offer personalized, effective care that fosters stronger relationships with patients. By minimizing time spent on administrative tasks, clinicians can devote more attention to what truly matters—enhancing health outcomes and improving the overall patient experience.

For more information on how AMIA-AI technology is reshaping healthcare, visit the St. Luke’s Health System website.
