A new report launched by PayjoyTHE Unlock economic mobility: financing of smartphones and the rise of micro-entrepreneurs of the mother of Mexico Report, draws information from more than 1,100 mothers working in Mexico who received a Payjoy smartphone loan. He examines how access to smartphones has an impact on their work, family life and financial stability. Ninety-two percent of mothers working in Mexico have indicated that the financing of smartphones has released their ability to maintain their current job.

Mexico labor is increasingly shaped by working micro-entrepreneurs who work, defined as mothers who balance care, household tasks and employment to complete family income. Many of these women participate in the informal economy – economic activities such as street sales, domestic work and concert work – occupying several jobs and micro -entrepreneurs looking for a better economic future for themselves and their families.
Sixty-five percent of Payjoy female customers in Mexico operate in this informal economy, with 75% of this group working over seven hours a day. An additional work of 24% more than 10 hours a day.
On Payjoy female customers interviewed, 67% are working mothers and 73% point out that their smartphones are extremely important for them.
Eighty-five percent of mothers point out that their phone allows them to balance the responsibilities of work and the house, stressing how the financing of smartphones takes care of micro-entrepreneurship and economic mobility. This ability to combine work and family tasks is essential to working mothers: 96% say that care and work capacity is just as important for them.
