Empowering Youth in Odisha: Training for a Digital Future
Over 7,000 young individuals from Odisha are set to receive specialized training in artificial intelligence (AI) and financial technology (FinTech), including insurance technology (InsurTech), over the next five years. This initiative aims to create a workforce prepared for the evolving demands of the digital economy.
Strategic Partnership for Innovation
The Odisha government has collaborated with the Singapore-based Global Finance and Technology Network (GFTN) and the National University of Singapore’s Asian Institute of Digital Finance to establish the Integrated Center for Global Financial Technology Capabilities in Bhubaneswar. This center focuses on fostering innovation in FinTech and InsurTech through a comprehensive four-pillar strategy: global learning, global mindshare, global innovation, and global capability development.
Successful Launch of Training Programs
The first cohort of trainees, numbering nearly 200, has successfully concluded their training and secured employment opportunities. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced at the India Black Swan Summit 2026 that some participants were even afforded the chance to visit Singapore and Japan to enhance their exposure in this dynamic field.
Global Summit Highlights
The India Black Swan Summit attracted around 1,700 delegates from 24 countries, including policymakers, industry leaders, and global investors. Organized under the BharatNetra initiative, the summit positions Odisha as a hub for global capability centers and FinTech innovation, showcasing the state’s commitment to digital transformation.
Introduction of FinTech Policy
During the summit, Chief Minister Majhi also announced plans for a new FinTech policy that aims to accelerate innovation within the state’s digital economy ecosystem. The government seeks to create supportive frameworks that will foster entrepreneurship and encourage investment in cutting-edge financial technologies.
Partnerships to Enhance Employment Opportunities
The Odisha government has formed partnerships with several FinTech and InsurTech corporations to support internships, apprenticeships, startup mentoring, and pilot projects with state agencies. These collaborations are expected to boost workplace readiness and create significant employment opportunities for the youth.
Support for Women Entrepreneurs
Recognizing the potential of women self-help groups (SHGs) in Odisha, the GFTN has pledged its support to help these groups establish small and medium enterprises (SMEs). By providing technology and e-commerce marketing support, the initiative aims to empower SHGs and enable them to export their products.
Addressing Technology Challenges
President Droupadi Murmu, at the summit, emphasized the necessity for systems and skills to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology. While technology holds transformative potential, it also poses challenges such as cybersecurity threats and misinformation. She highlighted the importance of fostering digital literacy among the youth to mitigate online fraud and enhance financial security.
Conclusion: A Vision for the Future
Odisha’s initiative to train its youth in FinTech and AI technologies represents a significant step toward building a future-ready workforce. By investing in education and technology, the state is positioning itself as a leader in the digital economy and ensuring sustainable growth for its citizens.
