Latest updates as of July 30, 2024: The cost of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 project has surged by 52%
The expenses for the Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 network have escalated to nearly Rs 40,000 crore, reflecting a 52% increase from the original estimate provided in 2014. The project, which covers 72 kilometers, was initially approved at a cost of Rs 26,405 crore and was expected to be completed by 2019.
Recently, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation LTD (BMRCL) submitted a revised budget proposal to the State Finance Department via the Urban Development Department (UDD) for approval. This submission marks the second time the project’s cost has been revised. In 2022, the Phase 2 costs of the Namma Metro project rose by Rs 4,290 crore.
