Fintech giant Paytm, located in Gurugram, has unveiled the PayTM Solar Soundbox, an innovative device that harnesses solar energy for seamless digital transactions.
This new offering targets merchants across India, particularly those in rural and remote areas where power interruptions are common.
A Solar-Powered Solution
The Paytm Solar Soundbox features a solar panel situated on top, enabling it to recharge in direct sunlight. It comes equipped with two batteries: one powered by solar energy and the other by electricity.
Paytm states that just 2 to 3 hours of sunlight can keep the device running for an entire day, while the electric battery can sustain it for up to 10 days without requiring a recharge. An integrated QR code allows for UPI and Rupay credit card payments, giving businesses multiple payment options.
Tailored for Small Enterprises
According to Paytm, the solar box caters specifically to the needs of street vendors, market sellers, artisans, and other small business owners.
The device provides immediate payment confirmations through a 3-watt speaker, ensuring merchants receive alerts even in noisy environments. It offers audio notifications in 11 Indian languages and runs on a 4G connection for quick transaction updates.
Government Endorsement
Pankaj Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Finance, praised the launch as a significant advancement for small businesses and a promotion of sustainability, indicating that it aligns with the vision of a self-reliant and environmentally-conscious India.
“The introduction of this affordable solar box by Paytm is an impressive move to enhance the capabilities of small businesses, particularly in remote areas. It aligns with the goal of a self-sufficient India that values the environment,” stated Chaudhary.
PayTM’s founder and CEO, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, emphasized the initiative as part of the company’s commitment to innovation and financial inclusion, asserting that the solar box aims to enhance transparency and accessibility in digital payments.
“With this device, developed in India, we are pioneering innovative solutions that will shape the future of payments in the nation,” remarked Sharma.
Embracing Digital Payment Innovations
The launch of the Solar Soundbox follows PayTM’s recent introduction of the NFC Card Soundbox, which merges NFC technology with QR payments in a single unit.
Besides these hardware offerings, PAYTM enables users to link their bank accounts, generate UPI IDs, and facilitate peer-to-peer payments through QR codes, mobile numbers, and direct bank transfers.
By broadening its payment system offerings, the company aims to assist merchants nationwide and foster the adoption of eco-friendly solutions within the expanding digital economy.
