In a hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court asked the government to examine the possibility of permanently posting women in the Indian Coast Guard. According to the Bar and Bench, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said women cannot be left out. In 2024, the norms do not “hold water”. “If you don’t do it, we will do it. So, look at this,” the Chief Justice said. The remark was made while hearing the case of a woman officer of the Indian Coast Guard, who is seeking permanent commission for women officers in the force who are eligible for short-service commission.
