Xero and Anthropic Forge Partnership to Enhance Small Business Financial Capabilities
Xero and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership aimed at providing small businesses and their accounting advisors with real-time financial intelligence. This collaboration marks the first instance where Xero customers can interact with their financial data within a major AI platform. By integrating their respective ecosystems, the companies seek to reduce the time users spend on tasks such as tracking down invoices or managing cash flow across various fragmented reports.
Enhancing Workflows with AI Integration
According to Diya Jolly, Xero’s chief product and technology officer, small business owners frequently grapple with critical issues such as tight cash flow, overdue invoices, and hiring budgets. “To operate efficiently, small business owners, along with their accountants and bookkeepers, need immediate answers to these pressing questions, whether they are using Xero or Claude,” Jolly stated. The integration of Claude’s capabilities will allow Xero to evolve into more autonomous workflows, facilitating the role of its AI superagent, JAX (Just Ask Xero), which will handle tasks ranging from cash flow predictions to executing complex financial functions.
This integration is poised to be available within the coming months and will introduce significant operational enhancements for users:

Commitment to Data Privacy and Responsible Use
Addressing a key concern regarding data privacy, Xero emphasized that data responsibility is a core principle of this partnership. Any financial data shared between the two platforms will be used exclusively for the user’s session, ensuring that proprietary information is never utilized to train Anthropic’s AI models.
Chris Ciauri, managing director of international at Anthropic, underscored the significant impact of infusing AI reasoning into established financial systems. “Xero has spent two decades building the financial platform relied upon by millions of small businesses. Claude adds a reasoning layer to that foundation,” Ciauri explained. “Customers can now obtain clear answers and suggested actions in real time, eliminating the need for a dedicated analyst or CFO to interpret their financials.”
Beyond enhancing user experiences, this partnership is set to transform Xero’s internal operations as well. Xero’s engineering teams are expected to leverage Claude Code and Cowork to expedite their internal product development processes, further solidifying the company’s commitment to innovation in financial technology.
