IndiaThe Ministry of Finance has advised its employees to use AI tools such as Chatgpt and Deepseek for official work, invoking concerns about the confidentiality of government data and documents, according to an internal opinion.
Similar restrictions on Deepseek have been implemented in countries like Australia and Italy on data security risks. The reports of the opinion surfaced on Tuesday on social networks, just before the planned visit of the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman in India, during which he should meet the Minister of IT.
“The use of AI tools and applications (such as Chatgpt, Deepseek, etc.) on computers and office devices presents risks for the confidentiality of government data and documents,” said the council issued by the Ministry of Finance on January 29.
The Ministry of Finance of India, as well as representatives of Openai and Deepseek, did not immediately respond to requests for comments. Three officials of the Ministry of Finance confirmed the authenticity of the Council, declaring that it had been broadcast internally this week.
Meanwhile, Openai is under control in India due to a case of violation of the current copyright filed by the main Indian media houses. In legal files, Openai argued that he does not manage servers in India and that the Indian courts should not have jurisdiction on the case.
