Revolut, the fast-growing fintech company, is preparing to unveil its own AI-powered financial assistant in the near future. This announcement comes from Francesca Carlesi, the British director of Revolut, during an interview at a Bloomberg New Voices event in Milan.

The company is currently testing its AI technology, with plans for a launch on the horizon. Carlesi emphasized that leveraging AI to assist users in their financial decisions is a key strategic goal for Revolut as it aims for growth in 2025. This move highlights the increasing importance of AI in personal finance.

Intense Competition in the Fintech Landscape

Carlesi also commented on the evolving competitive landscape of the fintech sector, noting how convergence between digital innovators and traditional banks is reshaping the industry. “Fintech is no longer just about the small startups trying to make their mark. We’re now observing significant players and increased competition among both fintech firms and traditional financial institutions,” she stated.

Growing Customer Base and Revenue Growth

Revolut has witnessed rapid growth, boasting 52.5 million customers as of 2023, surpassing HSBC Holdings PLC. The company reported a staggering 72% increase in annual revenue, totaling £3.1 billion (approximately $4 billion), alongside a noted rise in profits. This remarkable growth is indicative of Revolut’s strategy to capture a larger portion of the financial services market.

Plans for Expansion in the UK

As part of its expansion strategy, Revolut is set to broaden its banking operations within the United Kingdom. The company plans to hire 200 banking employees by the end of the year while progressing toward obtaining full bank authorization in its domestic market, a significant milestone in its evolution.

Challenges Post-Brexit

In light of Brexit, Carlesi addressed the regulatory challenges facing the fintech sector, especially concerning the divergence between UK and European regulations. She pointed out the necessity for convergence, stating, “It is no longer feasible to simply copy and paste British strategies into European markets, particularly regarding stablecoins, cryptocurrencies, and fraud regulations.”

Investments and Global Expansion

Last month, Revolut announced plans to invest €1 billion in France as it seeks a localized banking permit. This move establishes Paris as its Western European headquarters, with a commitment to hiring at least 200 employees over the next three years. Additionally, Revolut is actively pursuing global expansion, with ten banking license applications currently in progress, while retaining its headquarters in London.

Conclusion

With the launch of its AI financial assistant and ongoing investments in new markets, Revolut is solidifying its position as a leader in the rapidly evolving fintech industry. The company’s strategic initiatives reflect a commitment to innovative solutions for modern banking challenges while navigating regulatory frameworks across different regions.
