We recently compiled a list of 20 Trending AI Stocks According to Latest Analyst Ratings and News. In this article, we’ll take a look at where Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) stacks up to other trending AI stocks.

Global management consulting firm Bain & Company recently released a report on the artificial intelligence sector, highlighting that AI is driving an unprecedented wave of technological change, the market for products and services of AI expected to reach between $780 billion and $990 billion by 2027. According to research by Bain, major cloud service providers were at the forefront of AI research and development, pushing back the limits of larger models, advanced infrastructure and energy efficiency. These hyperscalers focused on developing larger, more complex models that required significant computing power and resources, leading to the need for data centers with energy capacities of up to gigawatts, potentially straining energy networks and supply chains.

Bain pointed out that while the big players dominated the high end of the market with expansive models and huge data centers, innovation also thrived in the smaller models. These smaller, domain-specific models were deployed at the edge, where they were more cost-effective, more energy efficient, and able to meet real-time processing needs, particularly in applications such as autonomous driving. The proliferation of models like Llama, Claude, and Gemini illustrates how AI is rapidly evolving beyond a few proprietary models, with many options now open source or specialized for particular tasks.

The study further clarifies that the rapid growth of AI workloads, especially with data-intensive applications, is also reshaping the technology landscape. The need for increased storage, computing power and memory was driving innovations in data center design, networking and storage technologies. According to Bain, chipmakers, and particularly GPU makers, were moving beyond their core graphics processing units to include integrated solutions improving the efficiency of AI models, with their products now combining capabilities of computing, memory and networking. Competition is also driving the development of vertically integrated AI solutions, in which technology companies design everything from hardware to software to optimize AI performance.

Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) provides semiconductor infrastructure software solutions. The company recently announced its fiscal third quarter results, and Wall Street analysts were quick to express their views on the report. Benchmark noted in a note to investors that Broadcom’s earnings report was seen as something of a savior of the AI business’s momentum after a week of incredibly poor stock price performance of NVIDIA and most names related to AI. However, the advisory highlights that Broadcom reported only a tepid pace for the July quarter and provided guidance slightly below consensus estimates.

Charlie Kawwas, chairman of Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO), spoke at the Goldman Sachs 2024 Communacopia and Technology conference earlier this month, saying increased spending by large Tier 1 hyperscalers would drive growth for Broadcom’s AI semiconductor business. in fiscal 2025. In light of this, according to Kawwas, Broadcom had positively revised its AI semiconductor revenue outlook for fiscal 2024 from $7.5 billion at the start of fiscal 2024 to $12 billion earlier this month. Kawwas also reiterated Broadcom’s focus on markets where it could build a sustainable franchise built on technology leadership.

AVGO global ranks 8th on our list of trending AI stocks. While we recognize AVGO’s potential as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that certain AI stocks hold more promise in terms of higher returns in a shorter time frame. If you’re looking for an AI stock that’s more promising than AVGO but is trading at less than 5x earnings, check out our report on cheapest AI stock.
