The major language models (LLM) have revolutionized the way we interact with customers, partners, our teams and technology within the financial industry. According to GartnerThe adoption of ai by Finance Functions has increased significantly in the past year, with 58 pierent useing the technology in 2024 – a rise of 21 percentage points from 2023. While 42 pierent of finance functions do not currently use, half are planning implementation.

Although large in theory, these financial organizations must exercise an abundance of caution when using AI, generally due to the regulatory requirements that they must meet – as the EU artificial intelligence law. In addition, there are inherent problems and ethical problems surrounding the LLM that the financial industry must solve.

Approach common LLM obstacles

In 2023, almost 40% Financial services experts have listed data problems – such as confidentiality, sovereignty and disparate locations – as the main challenge in achieving the objectives of the AI of their business. This problem of confidentiality within LLMS is particularly important for the financial sector due to the sensitive nature of customer data and the risks of managing it, in addition to the regulatory and compliance landscape.

However, solid confidentiality measures can allow financial institutions to take advantage of AI in a responsible manner while minimizing risks for their customers and their reputation. For companies based on AI models, a common resolution consists in adopting LLM which are transparent on their training data (relative and refine) and to open up to the process and parameters. This is only part of the solution; Techniques preserving confidentiality, when used in the LLM context, can more responsibility for AI.

Hallucinations, when an LLM produces incorrect information, sometimes unrelated or fully manufactured but appear as legitimate outings, is another problem. One of the reasons why this happens is that AI generates answers according to the models of its training data rather than to really understand the subject. Contributing factors include knowledge deficiencies, training biases and generation strategy risks. Hallucinations are a massive problem in the financial industry, which gives great value to precision, compliance and confidence.

Although hallucinations are always an inherent characteristic of LLM, they can be attenuated. Useful practices include, during pre-training and manually refine the data using filtering or fine adjustment techniques by organizing training data. However, attenuation during inference, which occurs during deployment or use in real time, is the most practical solution because of the way it can be controlled and its cost savings.

Finally, the bias is a critical problem in financial space because it can lead to unfair, discriminatory or ethical results. The AI bias refers to the treatment or unequal results between different social groups perpetuated by the tool. These biases exist in the data and, therefore, occur in the language model. In LLM, the bias is caused by the selection of data, the demography of creators and linguistic or cultural glow. It is imperative that the data on which the LLM is formed is filtered and deletes subjects which are not coherent representations. The increase and filtering of this data is one of the many techniques that can help alleviate bias problems.

What is the next step for the financial sector?

Instead of using very large linguistic models, AI experts are moving towards the formation of smaller and specific models that are more profitable for organizations and are easier to deploy. Specific language models can be explicitly constructed for financial industry by finely adjusting data and terminology specific to the domain.

These models are ideal for complex and regulated professions, such as financial analysis, where precision is essential. For example, Bloombergpt is trained on in -depth financial data – such as press articles, financial reports and owner data from Bloomberg – to improve tasks such as risk management and financial analysis. Since these linguistic models specific to the field are formed on this subject, this will most likely reduce the errors and hallucinations that models for general use can create in the face of specialized content.

While AI continues to grow and integrate into the financial industry, the role of LLM has become more and more significant. While the LLMs offer immense opportunities, business leaders must recognize and mitigate the associated risks to ensure that LLM can reach their full potential in finance.
