FinTech Australia to Host Inaugural Fintech Data Horizons Summit
FinTech Australia is set to launch the inaugural Fintech Data Horizons Summit, a one-day event scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour. This summit aims to convene key leaders from various sectors, including banking, energy, housing, and payments, to discuss the growing landscape of fintech data.
Building on Previous Successes
The summit marks a natural evolution from FinTech Australia’s previous initiatives, including the successful Consumer Data Right (CDR) Summit and the FinTech for Net Zero event. This progression highlights the increasing maturity of the CDR alongside the national fintech data landscape. Notably, over one million Australians are now utilizing open banking products and services, leading to hundreds of millions of data transactions annually. This milestone signifies a shift from experimental phases to practical, everyday consumer usage.
Focusing on Core Themes
In a bid to harness this momentum, the summit will explore four pivotal themes: Open Banking and Open Data, Sustainability and Green Fintech, Housing and Cost of Living, and Financial Wellness and Financial Crime. Unlike traditional discussions that often delve into abstract policies, the event aims to ground these themes in practical, real-world case studies.
Insights from Industry Leaders
Rehan D’Almeida, CEO of FinTech Australia, underscored the importance of directing industry conversations toward tangible results. He stated that the summit will unite the local open banking and data community to evaluate effective practices and develop a robust agenda aimed at fostering exponential growth within Australia.
Moving from Theory to Practice
Moving beyond theoretical discussions, D’Almeida expressed a commitment to examine how open banking is transforming personal finance management, credit accessibility, and responses to cost-of-living challenges. He also emphasized the necessity of integrating sustainability themes, which are inherently linked to the effective growth of Open Banking.
Collaborative Ecosystem Required for Growth
While the open banking system is beginning to scale, D’Almeida cautioned that achieving its full potential calls for meticulous oversight and extensive collaboration across the ecosystem. Key stakeholders—including fintech companies, traditional banks, energy retailers, regulators, and consumer advocates—must engage in meaningful dialogues supporting this next developmental phase. The summit is intended to serve as a central platform for these diverse discussions, enriched by data and insights gleaned from various initiatives in energy, housing, sustainability, and crime prevention.
A Distinguished Lineup of Speakers
This year’s agenda reflects the significance of these data initiatives on the national economic landscape, featuring an impressive array of senior leaders and policymakers. Notable speakers will encompass Andrew Charlton MP, assistant minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy; Aaron Violi MP, shadow minister for the Digital Economy; Simon Kennedy MP, shadow assistant minister for Finance; and Andrew Bragg MP, shadow minister for Environment. They will be supported by prominent regulatory figures such as Scott Farrell, chair for Digital ID and Consumer Data Right, and Dr. Ian Oppermann, commissioner at the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission.
Event Registrations Now Open
Registrations for the highly anticipated 2026 event are currently open through the official summit website, inviting industry stakeholders to take part in shaping the future of fintech data in Australia.
