Paytm Launches UPI Payment Feature for NRIs with International Mobile Numbers
Fintech giant Paytm has unveiled an innovative feature designed specifically for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). This new option enables NRIs to execute UPI transactions in India using their international mobile numbers, eliminating the traditional requirement for an Indian SIM card.
Streamlined UPI Transactions for NRIs
In collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Paytm has made it possible for overseas users to access the Paytm app with their international numbers. These users can easily link their NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) bank accounts to facilitate effortless financial transactions.
Pay Anywhere with Ease
Once linked, NRIs can leverage the Paytm app for various payment needs. Whether it’s paying merchants via QR codes, transferring funds back home, or shopping online, users can accomplish all of this without dealing with currency conversions or international payment gateways.
An Empowering Message from Paytm
A spokesperson from Paytm shared, “We launched Paytm with a dream of creating technology made in India, for India, and now for all Indians across the world. Enabling NRIs to use Paytm UPI with their international mobile numbers is another step in this journey. This allows Indians to stay connected to India’s growing mobile payments ecosystem, no matter where they live.”

The company plans to expand its availability to more countries in the near future, making it easier for NRIs to engage in financial activities from abroad.
Additional Features for an Enhanced User Experience
Beyond payment functionalities, the Paytm app is now equipped with additional tools designed for overseas users. These include spend analysis, downloadable UPI statements in PDF or Excel formats, and balance tracking across multiple bank accounts, enhancing the overall financial experience for NRIs.
Continuation of UPI International Service
This introduction follows Paytm’s significant ‘UPI International’ rollout in November 2024, which enabled Indian users to engage in UPI payments in select global markets, including the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal. The latest feature is part of Paytm’s ongoing commitment to integrate its state-of-the-art payment solutions into the global landscape.
In conclusion, Paytm is increasingly becoming an invaluable tool for NRIs, allowing them to seamlessly manage their transactions in India without any hassle. With features that cater specifically to the needs of overseas users, Paytm is solidifying its position as a leader in the fintech space.
